WorldNet Daily (Link) - Chelsea Schilling (February 20, 2009)
When Americans were asked whom they admired enough to call their No. 1 hero, the majority of respondents answered "President Obama." In the new online Harris poll, citizens chose Jesus Christ as No. 2, followed by Martin Luther King.
Others in the top ten, in descending order, were Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, Abraham Lincoln, John McCain, John F. Kennedy, Chesley Sullenberger and Mother Teresa, according to Harris Interactive.
The 2,634 respondents were not provided a list of names. Americans named their heroes spontaneously. When asked to explain their choice of heroes, most responded with the following:
-
Doing what's right regardless of personal consequences: 89 percent
-
Not giving up until the goal is accomplished: 83 percent
-
Doing more than what other people expect of them: 82 percent
-
Overcoming adversity: 81 percent
-
Staying level-headed in a crisis: 81 percent
The same question was also asked in 2001 – except, in that year, Jesus Christ was the No. 1 answer. He was most often followed by Martin Luther King, Colin Powell, John F. Kennedy and Mother Teresa.
The individuals who advanced the most on the list since 2001, apart from Obama, were:
-
George W. Bush was rated only 19th in July 2001, when he had been president for six months, and is now number 5 on the list.
-
John McCain, who was not in the top 20 in 2001, is now number 7.
-
Chesley Sullenberger, the pilot who landed his jet safely in the Hudson River, is ranked number 9.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton now ranks higher on the list, at No. 12, than husband former President Bill Clinton, at No. 16.
Obama does get upset when people try to call him a Savior. He is a humble man at heart. He feels he is in God's hands, and is lead by a higher power, our great, 'I Am' the God of the Bible.
It is wrong to place him as a God. He is a great leader of
America. Obama is smart, honest, and God-will could come to be thro him. His wife is a special lady who keeps him on the right path.

The poll reveals a false hope in a man who, through his actions, is leading us down the road to socialism. Unfortunately it seems more and more Americans don't mind it much.
I have nothing against Obama, but I don't agree with the method being used and believe it is going to bring America directly under the control of the man of sin - which I do not believe is Obama btw, I'm looking to Europe for that. Whoever hasn't yet, check out Herb Peter's book Recommendation 666 at: http://www.fulfilledprophecy.com/page/recommendation-666-the-rise-of-the-beast-from-the/
As for his position on the Bible...
“When I read the Bible, I do so with the belief that it is not a static (stable) text but the Living Word and that I must be continually open to new revelations.” (Audacity of Hope p. 224)
I used to think Bush was a Biblical Christian too, but they all seem to fall in line with the politically correct "all roads lead to God" mantra.
At any rate, I don't doubt that Obama himself doesn't see himself as a Messianic figure, but a hero? I'm sure there are enough people around him and America that elevate him to hero status as stated in the poll. Statistics can be pretty shaky though, I don't put much faith in them.
I have a sneaky suspicion that there is a deeper, darker force behind politics today, which I call the mystery of iniquity, that is working to bring about the prophesied end of a world under the control of one man. The more we accept governmental controls, the more power government will have to control those under them - beyond the powers God has given leaders for our benefit. Our nation has become stuck in an entitlement mentality and the government is all too happy to oblige, but nothing is free and according to scripture the point will come when we will have to choose government or God and that choice will determine our eternity.
With so many people putting their faith in government as everything continues to come together in line with scripture, I'm just concerned for the people who are blindly walking down the road that leads to dictatorships and the wide path that leads to destruction. John 14:6
